my second brain is smiling

Science has shown that our gut is comprised of over 100 million neurons! It controls digestion, but also produces over some 40 neurotransmitters (of the same class as those found in the brain). Neurotransmitters, like serotonin which = feelings of well-being and happiness. In fact, 95% of your serotonin is found in your bowels!

It’s no wonder that we reach for comfort food- it feels good in our heads as well as our tummies. Double reinforcement! The mood-food connection exists (which means “hangry” is a real thing)! Studies have found that those who are well-nourished tend to be more compassionate, kinder, and giving of their time and possessions.

To that, I say, let us eat PIE! (or peach cobbler)

I am kindly sending summer on it’s way by using up the last of my summer fruits. Next up- pumpkin, squash, and apples!
