yellow light

i remember when he was young

he held my finger, so tight

sweaty, clammy, baby grasp.

as I watched him walk into the

big brick building-

today, I kept myself from

exploring this reality

and drove away.

green light,

coffee, go.

mother-load

I carry her weight

as she lightened mine

forceful feet

excitement-

her clammy fists

grasping-

she

red light,

cold, stop.

i remember-

do not grow

fast-

i keep you in my pocket

reserved-warmth

grow on my time

they grin today.

yellow light,

slow-steady
